Snow snow

It was a beautiful day but we still have a lot of snow on the course. I would like to thank the Mayo boys  High School golf team and there coach for coming out to Eastwood and picking up brush in the woods today, It was greatly appreciated. 

On a side note with the course getting close to opening please don’t walk or train your dogs on the golf course. There’s frost in the morning and with you walking on the grass your killing it. We are a golf course not a dog park. So please respect our golf course by keeping your dogs off the golf course. Thank you. Dave

Where did my ball go ???

It’s been a few weeks that I haven’t written so I thought I would touch base with everyone and tell you what’s happening at Eastwood. My staff has started painting the clubhouse deck. When we get another nice day we will finish it up. The new white tee on hole 15 is just about ready to open. I believe we are a week out then we will open it. We are preparing for a busy week. On Monday we have a special event for the 18 hole ladies. On Wednesday we have an Mga tournament that starts at 7:30 am. On Thursday we have a special event for the 9 hole ladies. We have been preparing the golf course since last week to get ready for these events. It takes a lot of work to get ready for 3 events in one week. I’m very proud of my staff and they have excepted the challenge and there doing a great job. I’ve been hearing a lot of comments about why is the rough so long and that’s where I got my title from. Chipping area

The chipping area is finally opened. There’s a few areas that are still in rough shape but there’s plenty of grass to open it. As of now we are going to keep the height of cut at 2.25 . When everything fills in we will gradually work the heigh of cut down to collar height which is 3/4 of an inch.  With this warm weather you may have noticed that the rough is thick and deep. We usually mow the rough once a week then on Friday mow a few passes around the fairways and mow the valleys. This week we are on our second mowing of the rough. The backnine will be done on Friday then we will make a few passes around the fairways on the front nine and if we have time mow some of the valleys. Mowing the rough twice a week isn’t easy. It takes about 14 hrs to get through the rough once. The math is easy if we are trying to mow it twice a week 28 hrs . That’s a lot of man hrs if your mowing twice a week. Course clean up

Has anybody noticed all the pine cones at the golf course this year? Its unbelievable !!!! I blow off a fairway the next day it looks like the pine cones held a party and they invited all there friends. I've never seen anything like this. Well I called in the Calvary to give me a helping hand. Steve Myhro the girls head golf coach at Mayo High School arranged to get his team of girls to give me a hand. They came armed with rakes and they went to town. It was something to see all those girls working as a team to make Eastwood a better place. The story gets better. Mayo and Century boys golf team showed up also. I took the Mayo boys over to hole 11 and we picked up all the garbage on the right and left side of that hole. Then we picked up more garbage around the pond of hole 11. As we were driving back to the front side of the golf course I asked the Mayo boys to take over raking for the gals.
