Course is opened

As I write this blog the snow is coming down , winter is back and it's not happy with us opening up. Things like this usually happen when you open up in March.  The golf course came through the winter pretty good. The voles had a hey day this winter. I will take a blower and blow off all the dead grass on the tee and green banks. The grass will grow back when it gets warm again. The greens look good. The front nine will be a little bumpy for a while because of the late fall aerification. So be patient they will heal up when it warms up. Hole 14 green had a critter dig a hole but I patched that up last Friday. All tees look good and some look like they need to be mowed in the near future. The fairways look pretty good except for the vole damage on some of them. I tried something new this year I took our buffalo blower and blew most of the pine cones into the woods. The mayo girls golf team will come and rake up the rest when the snow melts. The mayo boys golf team will give them a h...

Equipment

Hi everyone. Well I've been going through the equipment and I;m making good progress. The reels are all ground and some are put back on the machines. I've done quite a few of oil changes. I've been putting a lot of time into our rough mower and bank mowers. I'm just waiting for some parts and when they arrive I'll put them in and they will be done. Still lots to do. We will be getting a new greens mower this year. It will be replacing our 2002 greens mower. I'm pretty excited for that. Well that's it for now. Everyone have a great week !!!!!!!

Northern Green Expo

Happy New Year Everyone. I've been busy working on equipment and things are going pretty good. I got all my reel mowers ground. Which is a good thing. Next week I will be going to the Northern Green Expo.  I will be attending educational classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. There is also a huge trade show going on. This is a great time for me to network with other golf personnel and go to some great educational classes. I'm always trying to better my myself. By learning new things I'm hoping to better our golf course. I try to learn as much as I can at the Expo. The trade show is awesome also. There's tons of golf course equipment there,  lots of landscape and flower booths. Here is a link to see what the Expo is all about.    northerngreenexpo.org       Everyone stay warm and I will update you on everything I learn at the expo !!!! Take Care .... Dave

Winter

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year . There's a question I get ask pretty frequently during the winter months . What do you do during the winter months ? ?? Let me fill you in on some of the things we do during the winter. First we go through all our equipment and fix everything that is broken, then they get greased, oil changed etc. ect . We grind all our reel mowers. For me that is 22 reels. If any reels need repair we do that before  we grind them. Our equipment is getting older so we make sure everything is in working condition . We have mandatory safety meetings during the winter. We have educational classes that we go to. We are always trying to better our selves and learn new things. These classes also allow us to do some networking with other golf personnel . I groom the ski trails at Eastwood 3 days a week.  We all help with the city of rochester crow abatement program. Yes we chase the crow's out of the downtown area . We do a lot more thing during the winter but I...
