Projects

Looks like the rain is going to give us a break for a few days. Just a quick update on what we are up to these days other than the daily maintenance of the golf course. Right now we are edging the bunkers. We aren’t making them any bigger. The edges are all cut we just need to clean them up and push the sand back up. On holes 15 and 16 where the brush was cut out Joe took the York Rake and cleaned all the brush up and is tearing the stumps out . These areas look really good. Please keep your carts out of these areas . On the list also is to finish staining the clubhouse deck. There’s many things to do and we will do as much as we can before the kids head back to school. Enjoy your week. Brudy

Course conditions

Image
The rain has stopped for now. Just a little update on course conditions. I can sum this up in on word, WET. We will be letting carts out on Saturday. Rough and cart paths only. Today we did not mow fairways or do any touch ups on the rough or green banks. It was just to wet to allow any machinery out  on the course. So when your playing golf this weekend don’t be frustrated with the long fairways or long rough. I didn’t want the course conditions to be this way but I had no choice. So bare with me, on Monday we will tackle the rough and fairways. The good thing is that we were able to mow the greens and tee boxes today. Speaking of tee boxes we will open the new white tee on hole 15 on Monday. That’s all for now please stay out of the fairways with your carts. Below is a picture of the new tee on hole 15. Have a great weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather. Brudy

Where did my ball go ???

It’s been a few weeks that I haven’t written so I thought I would touch base with everyone and tell you what’s happening at Eastwood. My staff has started painting the clubhouse deck. When we get another nice day we will finish it up. The new white tee on hole 15 is just about ready to open. I believe we are a week out then we will open it. We are preparing for a busy week. On Monday we have a special event for the 18 hole ladies. On Wednesday we have an Mga tournament that starts at 7:30 am. On Thursday we have a special event for the 9 hole ladies. We have been preparing the golf course since last week to get ready for these events. It takes a lot of work to get ready for 3 events in one week. I’m very proud of my staff and they have excepted the challenge and there doing a great job. I’ve been hearing a lot of comments about why is the rough so long and that’s where I got my title from. Believe it or not we have been mowing the rough almost twice a week. Here’s what’s going on. The

Chipping area

The chipping area is finally opened. There’s a few areas that are still in rough shape but there’s plenty of grass to open it. As of now we are going to keep the height of cut at 2.25 . When everything fills in we will gradually work the heigh of cut down to collar height which is 3/4 of an inch.  With this warm weather you may have noticed that the rough is thick and deep. We usually mow the rough once a week then on Friday mow a few passes around the fairways and mow the valleys. This week we are on our second mowing of the rough. The backnine will be done on Friday then we will make a few passes around the fairways on the front nine and if we have time mow some of the valleys. Mowing the rough twice a week isn’t easy. It takes about 14 hrs to get through the rough once. The math is easy if we are trying to mow it twice a week 28 hrs . That’s a lot of man hrs if your mowing twice a week. There’s days where we won’t have enough staff to mow the rough twice. We will do our best to keep

Stumps Dirt Seed

The title pretty much describes what we have been doing when its not raining.  We have most of the new stumps filled and seeded. We still have some from last year to fill in and seed yet.  I have put small flags in the middle of the dirt so they don't get stepped on or so carts don't drive over them. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will be filling in some bad spots with dirt and seed. There's so many spots to fill in that I can't name all the holes they are on. The really bad spots will be roped off . Please do your best to stay out of these areas. This coming week we have two high school tournaments. Tuesday we have an 8 am shot gun start with the girls then at 1:30 the boys have a shot gun start. On Wednesday we have another tournament that starts at one. On Tuesday we are hoping to start staining the club house deck weather permitting. That's it for now enjoy your day...... Brudy

Pictures don’t Lie

It’s been a very busy and productive week at Eastwood Golf Course. We got all the rough and banks mowed before all this rain came. The greens got fertilizer put on them so we should start seeing some better color to them. Now if we can just shut the faucet off for a few days we could get a few more things done. Today is Friday and it’s raining outside so I canceled the crew today. A rain day really sets us back but we can’t control Mother Nature. With these wet conditions we have been going cart paths and rough only. Well that doesn’t seem to be working to well. As I said before Jeff Gorman and myself want carts out and we will try our hardest to get them out but we need help from you. It’s still not 90 degrees to your ball. You pick a side and drive on that side all the way to the green. It’s that simple. If You have a handicap flag on a cart you get 90 degrees. Me and my staff aren’t going to talk to every person we see in the fairways. We would never get anything done. I’m also seei

Rough and Cart paths only

Well the golf course has definitely got some green to it now. We’ve had some pretty nice rains this week, and this brings me to the article title. I want carts out. I do everything I can to allow carts out when it’s wet out. Here’s the golden rule when we say rough and cart paths only.  The golden rule is cart paths and rough only. It’s that easy. We don’t mean drive in the rough then drive in the fairway to your ball. You choose a side. Right side or left side it’s that easy. Now if you have a handicap flag you drive in the rough and then you can use the 90 degrees rule to your ball,  hit it then get back in the rough. I think that’s fair. If we say cart paths and rough only with the 90 degree rule the club house staff will inform you of that when you check in. Here’s a question to everyone, if you go play Somerby or Rochester Country Club and they say cart paths and rough only I’ll bet you follow there rules. If not they won’t have a problem removing you from the golf course. Why can
